Exercise 15 - Commenting on classmates's blogs

Today I visited the Blogs of my classmates Maribel and Kiymet.

In Maribel’s blogs I commented her two posts:

Exercise 5: Yes, throught Social Networking( like facebook) customers can share the information of the community's events and activities without going to the library. It also promotes the library;
Exercise 6: Yes, I think book review is a very good reference for readers to evaluate the item.

In Kiymet’s blogs I also commented her two posts:

Exercise 2: Yes, I like it too. It always provides the latest news about Ultimo library services and resources;
Exercise 5: Yes, throught Social Networking customers can share the information of the library, and it also attracts young people to participate the events and activities.

Exercise 14: Inviting classmates to be authors on my blog

I have invited three classmates to be authors on my blog. They are Gurkaur, Maribelmrosales and Kiymet.

Thank you everyone!

Exercise 16: Comment on my teacher's blog

I have made a comment on my teacher Gary's post discussing the robot/ABDS system.

My comment is:

The robot/ABDS system is amazing. There are four robots speeding up and down 50 feet to automatically fetch and deliver items required through its Virtual Browse interface. The system will free up the space and time at libraries. Also it will free librarians to do more reference services.

I have changed the background of my blog from gold to light blue colour:

Exercise 11: Recommendations - Hornsby Shire Council Libraries

I suggest Hornsby Shire Council Libraries to develop a blog in their services.
 Blogs serve as a platform where the users can file their concerns, queries and suggestions regarding the services and activities of the library. For example, State Library of NSW is using blog services. In the categories of the blog, it provides some information about the children’s book week. It is a brainstorming event, where participants share their ideas about the shortlisted books, displays and competitions. It also provides information on e-books service announcement. This collection is comprised of 2,500 Australian books, mainly academic in nature and all being e-versions of published books held in the Library. Please visit: the website:
Another example is Ultimo college blog services, It provides a lot of the latest news about library services and resources. Please visit the website: http://sydneyinstituteonline.net/uclibrary/
I would further recommend the following according to different sections to Hornsby Shire Council libraries.
·         Local Studies : I would like to recommend a blog section to let locals to discuss on books, articles and events related to local community. A good example is librarything website: http://www.librarything.com/groups/local.
·         Children: I think podcats is a good media for libraries to promote children's books and children's events to children via playing audio or video files.
·         Teenage/Youth: Teenage/ youth are very active user of web2.0 technology. Hornsby Shire Council Libraries have been using facebook, twitter and youtube to services this group. It is also very important to apply mobile technology, e.g. Apple and Andoid mobile applications or mobile website. They will easy to know libraries services, programs and new resources.
·         Adult Fiction: I would recommend book reviews in a blog section. A good example is this blog in Groovy Library website, http://groovylibrarian.edublogs.org/2011/04/13/young-adult-fiction-book-reviews/.
·         Information/Reference: Digital reference (or virtual reference) is the service I would recommend. Digital reference could significantly reduce the time of users to search information and reference.

In conclusion, it is important of Hornsby libraries to develop and adopt web 2.0 technology to enhance their library services, it would develop people to socially connect online, through creating, viewing and the sharing of media files and information.

Exercise 10: Evaluation - Hornsby Shire Council Libraries

Web 2.0 technologies refer to the applications and/or web sites that allow people to socially connect online, through creating, viewing and the sharing of media files and information. Due to this more efficient and convenient method of sharing and viewing information online, Hornsby Shire Council Libraries for instance, already offers many aspects from Web 2.0 of its functions in their services.

·          Offers a link to an interactive site completely dedicated to youths. The site is called YHQ.
The site includes access to Web 2.0 features such as:
-Flickr photos

 and media files)

-Within the YHQ site, there is also a section for review and there is also a shared forum included, that also allows the posting of
 comments anonymously. This allows viewers to share their opinions with others on the same site.
Adult Fiction
·          In the “online fiction” service at Hornsby Library, there are review and story sites made especially for fiction readers and writers
 who would like to offer their story works to share with others. These interactive Web 2.0 sites include FictionPress.com,
